Pakistan is confident it will field significantly stronger teams at the inaugural AFL Asia Cup than its last international outing at the 2023 Asian Championships.

After their breakthrough win at the 2022 Asian Championships in Men’s Division 3, Pakistan found the going tougher in Division 2 in 2023, finishing with a 1-1-2 record.

The Pakistan women’s team made their international debut at the 2023 Asian Champs – and won their first game – impressing with their hard tackling, passion and team spirit.

Director of AFL Pakistan Game Development Abdul Jabbar Chaudrey says that the international competition experience has driven participation at home in recent years.

‘It’s exciting to see new faces joining us all the time, adding fresh talent to the mix,’ he says.

Abdul says the men’s and women’s squads are in an intensive training phase in the lead-up to Asia Cup, training twice a day.

‘Morning sessions are focused on fitness drills to build our stamina and strength and evening sessions are to refine skills and game plans.’

Abdul says men’s players including Rashid, Labib and Atik have shown remarkable improvement and are ready to step up at the Asia Cup.

‘Under the guidance of our coach, Michael Gallas, we are poised to excel at the upcoming competitions,’ he said.
