The Indochina Cup 2025 has seen a changing of the guard, with Vietnam’s strangle hold on the titles broken by wins to Thailand (men) and Cambodia (women) in Rayong, Thailand on 31 May.
While the rich history of the Indochina Cup stretches back to 2007, the Vietnam Swans have been dominant in recent times, taking out the last five titles in the men’s competition and the last two in the women’s.
The battle of countries along the Mekong River is a highlight of the Asian footy calendar, and this year was no exception, hosted by the Thailand Tigers at the stunning PTT Stadium in Rayong.
In the women’s competition, a talented and committed Cambodian team got revenge for their Grand Final loss to Thailand at the AFL Asia Cup last December.
Sreytouch Rith was again a star up forward, leading the tournament goal kicking table with six goals, while Hannah Slaughter was a consistent performer in defence.
Cambodia also got off to a strong start in the men’s division with a big win over Vietnam, with power forward Borres Kieng booting seven goals.
But with the Cup up for grabs, a strong Thailand Tigers outfit ran over the top of Cambodia to grab the silverware. AFL Asia champ Damien Hoo – recently traded to Thailand from Indonesia in a multi-million baht deal – hit the scoreboard with some long-range bombs and was named Player of the Tournament.
Player of the Tournament in the women’s competition was Thailand’s Benz.
