Vietnam Swans footballer Jake Norris, a lifelong player and passionate advocate for youth wellbeing, is currently trekking over 2,000 kilometres from Hanoi, Vietnam to Chiang Mai, Thailand.
Jake and his Irish friend Sean Down are walking to raise funds for the Blue Dragon Children’s Foundation, which rescues children from human trafficking across Southeast Asia.
The pair have already covered more than 600 kilometres, crossing into Laos after several gruelling weeks on foot. Along the way, they’ve faced tropical storms, heat and a few unexpected nights sleeping rough by the roadside.
Jake and Sean have already raised almost 80 per cent of their fundraising goal, thanks to generous community support and a major donation from the Irish Embassy.
Jake said that despite setbacks — including Sean developing peroneal tendonitis — their spirits remain high.
‘Footy taught me about teamwork and resilience,’ he said. ‘This walk’s been a different kind of test — but the purpose keeps us going. Every step reminds us why we’re doing this: to give kids a chance at safety and freedom.’

‘There’ve been a few tough nights — blisters, rain, sleeping under a tarp — but people’s kindness along the way has been incredible,’ Sean added. ‘We’re just trying to keep moving, keep telling the story, and hopefully inspire others to help.’
The pair are sharing daily updates from the road — including video diaries, behind-the-scenes moments, and reflections — on Instagram (@dibocharity).

‘It’s a long road, but every dollar, every message of support, keeps us walking,’ Jake said.
