What is AFL?

AFL is the premier sporting code in Australia. It is exciting, skilful, fast and tough, played by the fittest and strongest athletes and combines the best parts of every sport, all in one.

You may hear the game referred to as AFL, Australian football, Aussie Rules, or simply footy, and it is the indigenous sport of Australia that has been played for over 150 years.

At the highest level, the sport is played with an oval ball between two teams of eighteen players on a large oval-shaped field, with the aim of the game to kick the ball through the two tallest goal-posts which are set at either end of the ground.

You may see AFL in Asia played on smaller, rectangular grounds and with 9 players per side, but the skills of the game remain the same and the passion and enthusiasm is as prevalent as it is in Australia.
