The PAFL (Philippines Australian Football League) was formed in 2004 and its national representative team, the Philippine Eagles, was developed in the same year to compete with other teams in the Asian region.
After 10 years of blood, sweat and tears, the Philippine Eagles are starting to become a recognised force in Asia after taking out the 2013 Manila International Cup and coming runners-up in the 2013 Asian Championships.
From PAFL’s beginning, it was evident that the key to PAFL’s success was to have Filipinos playing this great game and to be involved in the development of the game, both on and off the field.
With the expat community being so transient, it was imperative to teach Filipinos the new and exciting game of Aussie Rules in order to keep the PAFL alive for the long term. As a result, PAFL, and it’s national team the Philippine Eagles, have seen a gradual increase in Filipino participants year by year.
This development will continue to help cultivate a whole new generation of Filipino players who will help take PAFL, and the Philippine Eagles, into the future and remain a force in Asian football for many years to come.
