In a clear sign that footy is flourishing in Thailand, the Communities United by Sport (CUBS) program run by the Thailand Tigers will contribute close to 40 players across the men’s and women’s divisions at the 2025 Asian Championships.

CUBS provides funding for kids from the Khlongtoei community for schooling, footy equipment and training with the Tigers’ squads.

Thailand Tigers President Jake McIntosh said that two men’s and two women’s teams will represent Thailand at the Champs on 30 August in Chon Buri.

‘The 2024 Asia Cup was a massive boost for engagement and several CUBS members are now key players in our men’s and women’s sides.’

Jake said the women’s team in particular are one of the huge improvers in Asia, following the Thailand Serpents win at the inaugural Asia Cup in Vietnam last December.

The Thailand Serpents celebrate their 2024 Asia Cup win in Ho Chi Minh City.

‘We expect many of the Asia Cup winning Serpents to feature heavily at the Champs in Chon Buri,’ he said.

‘Benz, who is still only 16 years old, has dominated footy in Asia recently after being named in the All-Asia team at Asia Cup and Player of the Tournament at Indochina Cup in May.’

‘Dee Makris led the Serpents to victory at the Asia Cup and was named Grand Final MVP and leading goalkicker in the women’s competition.’

Thailand’s Dee Makris powers away at the 2024 Asia Cup.

‘She recently transitioned from a successful soccer career in Thailand and is definitely one of the players to watch at the Asian Champs.’

Jake said the men’s team will be boosted by a strong contingent from the Phuket Power joining the team for the Champs.

The Tigers have also had strong support from two key sponsors for their national teams and CUBS program.

Australian Visas Thailand sponsors the Serpents and partnered with the Tigers to bring two teams to the Asia Cup, while Austhai Geophysical is a sponsor of the CUBS program and the 2025 Asian Championships.
