After two years on the sidelines at the Asian Champs as a boundary umpire and water runner, year 10 student Fah finally gets to play for the Thailand Tigers at this year’s Champs.

How did you first start playing AFL?

I started playing futsal for a team in Klong Toey community and then I was invited by Uncle Fai from the Duang Prateep Foundation to try AFL two years ago. At first, I wasn’t sure if I could play this sport, but with great coaches training me, I kept trying and grew to really love it.

Is this your first time playing at the Champs?

I’ve attended the Champs twice before, but I didn’t get to play because I was too young. I helped to run water for the players and worked as a boundary umpire. This year will be my first time playing with the team and I’m very excited!

What does it mean to represent your country at the Asian Champs?

I feel very honoured and excited, and I’m proud to be competing as part of the Thailand Tigers team.

Which team are you most excited about playing against at the Champs?

Earlier this year, I joined the Thailand Tigers for the IndoChina Cup and played against Cambodian. They were fast, strong and very experienced. I’m excited to compete against them again.

Who are some players from your team in good form recently?

Benz was selected to compete in the Asia Cup last year. She’s very fast and has some great skills. I’m really proud of Benz. Paeng is very strong with great tackling and evasive techniques.

What is your position or role in the team?

I usually play forward, but occasionally as a defender.

What do you like most about playing footy?

AFL is fun and challenging. You need to be strong and very fit. Playing AFL has also helped me to learn English.

What is your most exciting moment in a footy match so far?

It was exciting and fun to play against Vietnam at the Indochina Cup. It was a great experience and I made friendships with players from other teams.
