All-Asia team selection at the Asia Cup in 2024 is just the beginning for Thailand’s rising star, Benz. Sponsored by AustCham Thailand, off the field she’s in second year of a vocational Accounting Program.

How did you first start playing AFL?

I was playing futsal for a team in Khlong Toei community and later joined the AFL program with the Thailand Tigers through the Duang Prateep Foundation. I thought the sport was unique, challenging and saw older boys playing it, so I wanted to give it a try. I ended up really loving it!

What does it mean to represent your country at the Asian Champs?

I feel proud to be a player on our strong Thailand Tigers team and I will do my very best.

Which team are you most excited about playing against at the Champs?

I’m excited to compete with all the teams, but especially the Cambodian team—they’re very skilled and have many more years of experience. At first, I felt a bit nervous competing against them, but I gave it my all, applying what the coach taught me and putting trust in my teammates.

How much are you training in the lead-up to Champs?

I train hard and with focus. I also do extra running and fitness workouts to keep building my strength and performance.

Who are some players from your team in good form recently?

Bie is my younger sister. She has been improving constantly—she’s fast, accurate with her kicks, and very smart. Paeng has great kicking technique, is very strong, smart in tackles and connects well with teammates in sharing the ball.

What is your position or role in the team?

I play in the midfield, which I really like because I get to run all the time, non-stop. The coach says I’m a good sweeper because I’m not tall, so I’m good at playing low to the ground.

What do you like most about playing footy?

I enjoy team play. It’s always fun to be on the field. I get to play with seniors, learn more, and keep improving myself.

What is your most exciting moment in a footy match so far?

I’ve enjoyed every match I’ve played in, especially the Asia Cup 2025 in Vietnam. That match was very important to me and was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had.

How has playing AFL helped to build community in your local area?

Playing footy has helped bring positive attention to the Khlong Toei community. In the past, people often viewed Khlong Toei negatively, but in reality, there are many good aspects to the community.

What lessons would you share with other young people in your community who might want to play AFL?

For anyone interested in trying AFL, I’d be happy to teach and share techniques. There might be some strong contact involved, but it really helps strengthen your body.
