In breaking news, the Bali Geckos will not field their own team at the 2014 Asian Championships which will be played next weekend in the Philippines. This will require a new draw.
The Geckos have struggled to put a team together for the Champs and instead, the players who can attend will join the Lao Elephants. The number of teams now playing at the Champs will be now be 10 and a new draw will be required.
Below is a statement from the President of the Philippines AFL, Peter Hammon, to the Presidents of the competing clubs:
“We have had had a late withdrawal from the Bali Geckos due to players pulling out of the tour. They had been struggling with numbers and were set to team up with Cambodia which has also recently confirmed it is unable to attend due to a lack of numbers.
“We will have to revise the draw to now accommodate the 10 tens attending. We apologise for any inconvenience that this may cause in your planning. We will aim to send out the revised draw over the weekend.”
As soon as the revised draw is confirmed, AFL Asia will provide details on this website.
