Australia is well renown for its sporting prowess and punching above its weight on the global stage, and the Australian Embassy in Japan know it!

AFL Japan, in conjunction with the Japan Cricket Association and Netball Association, teamed up with the Australian Embassy in Japan over the weekend to deliver an all-Australian Sports Day. The free event was open to the public, and aimed at getting more Japanese people active and moving, while participating in Australia’s three favourite sports.

The Government of Western Australia and Study Perth were also in attendance, creating the ultimate sporting experience at the Komazawa Olympic Park in Tokyo. The site also played host to the 1964 Tokyo Olympics.

While the day was aimed at creating come-and-try exhibitions, AFL Japan utilised the experience to recruit players ahead of the 2023 A-League and GO-League seasons. Here’s hoping the recruitment session finds some future Samurais for AFL Japan’s tilt at the 2024 International Cup.

Who knows, even the next Alex Davies or Michito Owens might be among the pack…
