The number of passionate and committed local AFL players continues to grow throughout Asia. We profile a few who are pumped about representing their country in Aussie Rules at the Asian Championships in Thailand.

Inyoman Sutena – Bali Geckos

‘[Jordan de Goey and I] once trained together in Kerobokan prison in Bali.

The Balinese big man – nicknamed D’Knock – makes his debut at the 2024 Asian Championships.

How did you get the nickname ‘D’Knock’?

I’m from Bali, the third of three siblings. My actual nickname is Kenok, but I had an idea that it would be easier for foreigners if I called myself ‘Knock Knock’. But my coach Rick started called me Door Knock, then ‘D’Knock’ for short.

How did you start playing AFL?

In September 2022 the Bali Geckos visited our village and introduced us to footy. Because it was a new sport, I was interested in trying it and I started to like it.

What do you like most about playing footy?

What I enjoy most about footy is meeting new friends from various countries and being able to tell each other stories about our cultures.

What is the most exciting moment you’ve had in a game?

When I mark the ball and run past the ‘enemies’!  And of course scoring a goal.

Have you ever been to a live AFL match in Australia?

Not yet, but I have big dreams of being able to watch it live someday.

Do you have any favourite AFL or AFLW players?

Yes, Jordan De Goey because we once trained together and played football in Kerobokan prison in Bali.

What position or role do you play in your team?

Forward and ruck.
