The Myanmar Fighting Cocks Australian Football Club was established in February 2014 by Julian “Rooster” Clark, a veteran of the international Australian Rules scene and founder of numerous clubs in Europe and Asia.

A group of AFL enthusiasts gathered to commence training for an exhibition match against the Thailand Tigers. This was played in Yangon on May 24, 2014. Since that fateful beginning, the Fighting Cocks have grown in numbers and battled valiantly against other regional teams like the Vietnam Swans, the Cambodia Eagles, and the Laos Elephants. At the 2014 Indo China Cup the Club recorded its maiden victory against the Cambodia Eagles.

The Club aims to compete regularly against teams from regional Asian countries in one-off games and tournaments. These clubs compete under the umbrella organisation AFL Asia, of whom we are a member. AFL Asia oversees all games and tournaments in Asia and is constantly working to promote the sport to local players and spectators.

The Myanmar Fighting Cocks has a strong group of active members made up of mostly Australians and other expats (from North American to Europe) living in Yangon. We currently have a small number of local Myanmar players, but view development in this area as a key pillar to the future of the Club, and the game more broadly.

Although in its infancy, the Club has an AusKick program targeted at beginners and young children. Involvement in this program aims to develop kid’s AFL skills and knowledge, but also personal attributes and community spirit.

The Myanmar Fighting Cocks train on Wednesday evenings at the Australian Club Yangon, Bahan Township and on Saturday afternoons at The Hen House AFL Pitch, Star City, Thanlyin Township.
