Brilliant to see Alex Davies make his AFL debut this afternoon for the Gold Coast Suns against the Sydney Swans at Marvel Stadium.

Alex has Japanese heritage on his mother’s side and grew up in Cairns where played his junior football for the Manunda Hawks Football Club. He moved to the Gold Coast as a 17 year old, where he played for the Broadbeach Cats Football Club until becoming an 2020 AFL Draft pre-selection as a Gold Coast Suns Academy product.

Alex collected 17 disposals and amassed 7 tackles in an impressive debut and is an exciting proposition for the young and inexperienced Suns, who will be looking to add some much needed depth and experience to their playing list in the off-season to build around their list of glittering and up and coming young stars.

As mentioned earlier in the week, AFL Japan legend Michito Sakaki played a preseason trial game for the Essendon Football Club against the Sydney Swans back in 2006 and is the best Asian-born footballer to come out of the region.
