Following the release of the job description in May, we received a huge amount of interest in the position, with over 100 applications received of exceptionally high standard. Following a rigorous process involving two rounds of interviews with a panel of AFL and AFL Asia representatives, we are pleased to announce the successful candidate is Mr Simon Highfield.

Simon, originally from Newcastle, comes with a wealth of relevant AFL and international experience, with 8 years of experience as an AFL Development Officer, Solomon Islands Development Manager, AFL Fiji Development Manager and most recently Development Coordinator for AFL South Pacific. Simon is also a qualified PE teacher and an accredited Level 2 AFL Coach.

Simon has done a power of work throughout the South Pacific and has been chosen to help take footy in Asia forward.

In his most recent role as AFL South Pacific Development Coordinator, Simon grew the sport across six Pacific countries, coordinated development programs and successfully secured Australian Government and commercial funding opportunities.

As he has done over the past two years as the AFL South Pacific Development Coordinator, Simon will be based at AFL House in Melbourne and will travel regularly to Asia as required. He will commence in his new role on August 1 and we hope all Member Clubs will extend him a warm welcome.
