We have a bumper weekend of footy on the cards across the region that will see some clubs travel and host other AFL Asia clubs for the first time since 2019. With the Asian Championships fast approaching, teams are keen to get a kick in before the ultimate test in October.
The Vietnam Swans will host the Singapore Wombats at the Saigon Cricket Ground (SCG) with the action to get underway from 1:00pm with the men’s game, whilst the Lady Swans and Singapore Wombettes will kick off from 3:00pm. It’ll be all happening down at the SCG tomorrow. The Swans are looking to make the jump into Division 1 in the ATG 2022 Asian Championships for the first time this year, so testing themselves against the Wombats will be the perfect preparation.

Over in Malaysia, the Malaysian Warriors, celebrating their 30th year, will play hosts to the Indonesian Volcanoes, a combined Bali Geckos/Jakarta Bintangs side, at the Oasis International School. From 1:00pm, history will be created as the Malaysian Warrior Women host the Indonesian Volcanoes women’s team on their first ever tour. The men’s game will get underway from 2:30pm.

Meanwhile over in China, the Guangdong Australian Football League will host Round 1 of their 2022 season, which is an exciting development given the recent restrictions. The GDAFL coexists with the Guangzhou Scorpions and will see the Guanghui Blue Hawks take on the Foshan Lightning Wolves. In China’s most populated province, it’s fantastic to see the GDAFL return and provide the opportunity to play Australian football after a few years on the side-lines.
