All Asian Squad Returns at AFL Asia 2019 Asian Championships
After a long absence the very popular and well received All-Asian Team guernseys were reintroduced as an innovative way of rewarding the AFL Asia 2019 All-Asian Team.
The wonderful initiative was firstly introduced by Singapore Swans Legend ‘Rooster’ during the mid-2000’s and was an opportune to bring them back into vogue as we celebrated our 20th Asian Champs.
Local Development Continues to Rise
It’s exciting to see our club’s/league’s Local Development programs and initiatives paying off in spades with 11 of the 30 playing squad made up of locals, which is an outstanding result and speaks volumes of how far Local Development as come in recent years!
The 30 players within All-Asian Team is comprised of 3 x both Division 1 Grand Finalists, 2 x each other Division 1 Teams, 2 x both Division 2 Grand Finalists, 1 x each other Division 2 & 3 Teams.
All Asian Leaders Bringing Great Experience
Although the All-Asian will never set foot on a football oval together it would’ve been well led by seasoned veterans Gary Wines (Captain, Hong Kong Dragons Division 3, who was chaired off at his last Asian Champs and more importantly coached Hong Kong to success in 07, 12, 13, 15), Dave Shields (Vice Captain, Thailand Tigers) and Eric Kerrison (Deputy Vice Captain, Macau Lightning), who all gallantly led from the front throughout the tournament.
All Asian Coaches Named
Infinity Division 1 Asian Champions PNG Muruks Coach Kevin Ball, was unofficially selected to lead the lightning quick side as Head Coach, while Hong Kong Dragons Division 1 Grand Finalist Coach Chris Barr and Australia Finance Advocates Division 2 Asian Champions Vietnam Swans Coach Rod White (Assistant Coach), were selected as his off-siders.
AFL Asia would like to officially congratulate the AFL Asia 2019 All-Asian Team on their selection and are very appreciative of our AFL Asia Preferred Apparel Provider – Tribal Sport for designing and producing the fantastic looking guernseys!
