A proud moment: the Garudas sporting their new jumpers in preparation for the debut at the AFL’s 2014 International Cup in Melbourne.

Saturday, last weekend, 19 July 2014, the Jakarta Bintangs played the Indonesian Garudas. It was the Garudas’ last hit out before next month’s International Cup in Melbourne.

Borneo Bears President, Dean Reardon, explains more below.

Jakarta Bintangs 19.10 vs Indonesia Garudas 12.7

The first quarter was very tight with the Garudas kicking the first two and were just in front with the Bintangs on the back foot.

The start of the second quarter saw the much more experienced Bintangs winning it easily out of the centre. They kicked straight and were just in front by half time.

The Garudas came back with some fantastic passages of play in the third but in the last 5 minutes of Q3, the Bintangs kicked 3 goals straight.

In the fourth, the Garudas tried their best to stop the Bintangs strength out of the centre but couldn’t hold on.

The Bintangs final margin was 7 goals and 3 points (45pts).

Afterwards, the Garudas, the first team to represent Indonesia at the AFL International Cup, was announced and team jumpers presented.

From everyone at AFL Asia, the very best of luck in the 2014 International Cup! Go Garudas!
